Snow Day

Here's what it looked like when I came to work at the radio station today. (Notice I took the picture from inside the studio because it was so cold outside!)

My kids were very excited because they didn't have to go to school. It was canceled due to the slippery roads and cold temperatures.

What's crazy is that it was 40 degrees warmer outside less than 24 hours ago! Most people weren't too surprised, though, because things like this happen all of the time where we live in Michigan.

While I was shoveling snow thinking about the quick change in weather, the thought came to me that the God who created the world and controls the weather doesn't ever change.

Creation Museum

This Sunday night, the kids at my church will begin studying “The Seven C’s of History” from Answers in Genesis. My family is especially excited since we get to help with the music … AND since we’ve recently returned from a trip to the world-famous Creation Museum!

The museum, in Greater Cincinnati, opened just seven months ago and has already been visited by over 300,000 people (more than were predicted for the entire first year).

Mark Looy, co-founder of Answers in Genesis and co-host of the Answers … with Ken Ham radio program, met us at the door and made us all feel very welcome. We could hardly wait for my brother and two of his kids to arrive so we could start our tour! Thankfully, there’s plenty to see in the Main Hall even before watching the video introduction and entering the exhibits.

Judging from the TSG factor (time-spent-gawking), our kids & their cousins especially enjoyed the Wonders of Creation, Noah’s Ark Construction Site, and the Dinosaur Den.

We ended up spending over 4 hours experiencing this amazing walk through history (including a trip to Noah’s CafĂ© and the Stargazers Planetarium), but could have easily taken twice as long to read through the displays, soak in the atmosphere, and be reminded that the Bible is the “true history book of the universe.”

Superb Sites!

Usually when we blog about fun places to see, we’re speaking of virtual visits via the World Wide Web. But over the next two posts I’d like to share about some spectacular sites my family experienced on a recent trip to Grandma’s house -- a cool cave and a marvelous museum!

Our first stop was deep inside a mountain in East Tennessee that’s listed as the world’s largest underground lake in the Guiness Book of World Records. The Lost Sea Adventure in Sweetwater is part of a huge and historic cave system that’s been used since the days of the Cherokee Indians.

Highlights of our ¾ mile guided hike in the underground caverns included seeing Native American artifacts, hearing Civil War history and taking in many unique and unusual formations. Best of all were the rare anthodite crystals (cave flowers) found in only a few of the world’s caves.

The main attraction, of course, is the underground lake discovered by a 13 year old boy in 1905. And even though our family couldn’t ride on the glass-bottom boats because of recent dry weather, it was still amazing to experience The Lost Sea Adventure!

We’ve even talked about going back in a few years to check out the overnight Wild Cave Tour. For more information visit thelostsea.com

Chip is in the Prayer Chair!

He's given us great songs about Ice Cream, PE Class, and Jammy Days, and now, Chip Richter takes his place in the HIS KIDS RADIO Prayer Chair!

These days, Chip has been spending a lot of time on the road, using his music to bring positive, uplifting messages to kids and their families. As is the case with many Christian artists, Chip has spent a lot of time ministering to children in church settings.

But over the past few months, he has felt a push to take his message to kids in other places, like schools and other family events.

As you're praying for Chip this month, here are a few requests to keep in mind:
  • Pray that God will open doors for Chip to bring his music into libraries, public schools, performing arts centers, community festivals, and family events.
  • Pray that churches would catch Chip's vision for reaching "un-churched" children in these new avenues of ministry.
  • Pray that Chip would have wisdom and creativity as he writes and produces new songs, and that the Spirit of the Lord would put the songs in places where people need to hear them most.
  • Pray for safety for Chip as he spends a lot of time on the road and in the air.
  • Pray peace and safety for Chip's family when he is away, especially for his wife, Mary Beth, who juggles a lot of responsibilities at home and as the business manager of Righteous Path Music.

Thanks so much for praying for Chip this month. Your prayers are appreciated!
